Four Dinghies put through Their Paces in Valencia

From the 11th of March to 15th of March 2019, four dinghies D-Zero, Melges 14, RS Aero and Laser were kept through their speed at the Sea Trials for the One Person Dinghy Equipment (OPDE) of Men and Women for the Paris Olympic Sailing Competition 2024.

In the month of May 2018, World Sailing started a tender process that invited Manufacturers and Class Associations to tender for the One Person Dinghy of Women and Men.

On that WS received eight tenders and Working Party appointed Board of Directors recommended that class laser is induced as a complete choice in the Sea Trials along with the Melges 14, D-Zero and RS Aero.

The Nautico Valencia Real Club hosted the representatives of each class and manufacturer as well as a panel for evaluation and 11 experienced sailors of international caliber and who have experience of World Championship and Olympic.

All through the week, these sailors should be able to sail each boat and test its efficiency. Rotation on water will allow sailors to constantly sail all through each day and they will receive guidance from the class representatives who will help sailors taking part in it to achieve the boat’s maximum potential.

The trail will take place for five days and in five days, sailors will be able to test the efficiency of boats in different conditions, varied sea states and wind speed. It will allow sailors to check the potential of wind in the light wind of up to 18 knots. During the trial, all sailors will sail their boats independently and opposite other boats. On the very final day of the trail, the panel of evaluation with the ILCA permission tested the D-Zero, RS Aero and Melges 14.

All the sailors sailed boats in the mixed conditions to check the performance of each one on its advantages and disadvantages.
